GREEN PARKING IN the heart of ROTTERDAM
Two years ago, the expired parking garage of the ‘Rotterdam Weenapoint’ was on the demolition list. On behalf of the Maarsen Group, Van Mourik Architects developed a sustainable garage renovation plan as part of the adjacent prestigious new Rotterdam first-class project. The result is a completely enclosed car park surrounded by living green.
GREEN facade
Contractor company Groenewegen from Bergschenhoek was responsible for the renovation. Frans Groenewegen: "We have deliberately chosen a parking garage with a lot of living green, which perfectly goes in line with the new courtyard garden." The green façade was created with the Wallplanter system of Mobilane. Groenewegen: "The choice for this facade system with pre-cultivated climbers was perfect for us. There was a mature green result immediately after the installation."
One year later, the WallPlanter project looks amazing. The Green Screens thrive: the herds of the Hedera helix are now growing over the planters. This is exactly what the City of Rotterdam had in mind. The more green, the greater the absorption of particulate matter in the city.
